Commerce Syllabus for WB SLST 2025 (Class XI-XII)

This syllabus is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of fundamental commerce concepts, practical accounting skills, and essential business knowledge required for academic and professional success.

1. Accounting

  • Financial Accounting: Principles of accounting, journal entries, ledger posting, methods of depreciation, preparation of final accounts including trading, profit & loss account, and balance sheet.
  • Cost & Management Accounting: Preparation and analysis of cost sheets, budgeting techniques, ratio analysis for financial health assessment, and fund flow statements.

2. Auditing

  • Types of audits including internal and tax audits.
  • Vouching of transactions to verify authenticity.
  • Verification and valuation of assets and liabilities.
  • Preparation and understanding of audit reports and their significance.

3. Taxation

  • Income Tax: Basic concepts including residential status, different heads of income, and computation of taxable income.
  • Goods and Services Tax (GST): Fundamentals of GST, registration, invoicing, input tax credit, and filing of returns.

4. Business Mathematics & Statistics

  • Calculation of simple and compound interest, annuities.
  • Measures of central tendency such as averages.
  • Index numbers and their construction.
  • Correlation analysis and interpretation of statistical data.

5. Business Organisation & Management

  • Principles and functions of management.
  • Different forms of business organizations including sole proprietorship, partnership, and companies.
  • Human Resource Management (HRM) fundamentals.
  • Marketing mix (4 Ps) and strategies.
  • Financial planning and its importance in business.

6. Business Economics

  • Microeconomics: Concepts of demand, utility, elasticity, and market structures.
  • Macroeconomics: National income (GDP), inflation, monetary and fiscal policy, and IS-LM model basics.

Important Notes: Emphasis is placed on practical application of concepts, problem-solving skills, and understanding of current business practices. Students are encouraged to refer to updated tax laws and economic policies relevant to the examination year.
